Prusik knot
The Prusik knot allows you to make a rope brake. It can also be used as a handrail on a fixed rope for progression during dangerous passages. This will lock in the event of a fall. When using abseiling, place it above the belayer on the rope. It will serve as a brake / back up in addition to a figure eight, tube, or grigri! To make a Prusik knot, not all cords are equal, so be careful. Another use of this knot is the ascension handle/pedals, for escape on a fixed rope. To achieve the latter you may be tempted to do it with a strap, be aware that the coefficient of friction will be lower than with a cord. Before each use, be sure to check the condition of the rope and the cord ring before installation!
