Prusik knot

The Prusik knot allows you to brake on a rope. It can also be used as a handrail on a fixed rope for progression during dangerous passages. It will lock in the event of a fall. In the case of use for rappelling, place it above the belayer on the rope. It will serve as a brake / back up in addition to a figure eight, tube, or grigri! To tie a Prusik knot, not all cords are equal, so be careful. Another use for this knot is the handle / climbing pedals, for an escape on a fixed rope. To make the latter, you may be tempted to do it with a sling, know that the coefficient of friction will be lower than with a cord. Before each use, be sure to check the condition of the rope and the cord ring before installing!
